Just as original paintings increase in value over the years, so can a limited edition print increase in value, especially if it is a limited edition and signed and numbered by the artist who created the work. Quite a number of Suchiu Art prints have escalated in value to many times their original price. For example; his first Edmund Fitzgerald print set was originally sold at $200.00 for the two print set. These prints are commonly known to achieve actual 2nd market selling prices up to and even exceeding ten times the original price.
A painting such as a watercolor on paper, oil or acrylic on canvas is an original work of art. Because it is a unique work of the artist, it is said to be "the original." Because there is but one copy, and is not mass-produced, it has more value.
After a designated number of limited edition pieces are sold out, it is then classified as a 2nd market piece. A consumer can purchase a 2nd market piece through several sources. These include galleries, art dealers, private individuals, corporations, etc. An Artist Proof has the possibility of becoming 2nd market before the Printer's Proof and/or Signed & Numbered prints or vice versa. A piece can be sold several times over, after the allotted number of limited edition pieces have completely sold out, and is still considered a 2nd market piece. Prices are generally set by the 2nd market owner and may vary substantially.
Fine art prints are often made from an artist's original painting. To keep the value of each print high, they are sometimes limited in the number of reproductions made. Extremely restricted volumes can make limited edition prints very desirable as an investment.
A print from a predetermined number of impressions made from a plate, after which no more impressions are to be taken. It is individually signed and numbered in pencil by the artist and often by the pilots and crew members represented in the work. Usually only one edition is reproduced, and printed on better paper. A certificate of authenticity generally accompanies the print. Printing plates and negatives are destroyed after the print run has been completed to ensure that it will never be reproduced again.
The French word Giclée, which means to squirt or spray is quickly becoming the benchmark of limited edition prints leading into the new millennium.
An original painting is digitally scanned, color corrected and manipulated to match the tones of the original painting. A duplicator is then engaged to spray approximately 4 million droplets of ink per second onto the actual art canvas. Unlike tradition offset printing, the only thing that contacts the canvas is the ink. This produces more of an even tone rather than a dot structure.
These canvas prints are produced individually and take up to 30 minutes per reproduction. The end result is a near perfect forgery of the original painting. The bottom line is Giclée is a superior product and is capable of fooling the most discriminating collector.
A computer-generated reproduction made with an ultra-high-quality inkjet printer. It may also include hand work by the artist.
S/N = Signed and Numbered
A/P = Artist Proofs
P/P = Press Proofs
When an artist or art publishing house decides a painting would sell to art collectors and dealers, they produce a signed and numbered limited edition print release. This means the print number will be limited to a certain volume, say 500 prints and the artist will sign and number each print. In Suchiu Art productions there would be an additional 50 signed and numbered artist proofs (approximately 10% of the run) and 5 signed and numbered press proofs (approximately 1% of the run). Most art collectors believe that these prints and proofs are the next best thing to owning one of the artist's original paintings.
Also known as A/P. Prints outside the edition that are equal in quality to the edition and signed as Artist Proof or A/P. They are traditionally the property of the artist and usually limited to 10% of the edition. Artist Proofs usually carry a higher value.
Artists and art publishing companies sometimes add small images to a print. This added pictorial comment is called a remark and is traditionally spelled in French as "remarque".
Remarques can add exceptional value to an art-print. Some prints have been known to increase in values hundreds and even thousands of dollars more than the same print without.
When purchased with Suchiu Art pieces these images are always in full color and are totally hand painted by Ronald Suchiu and it is common for them to include a personalized note, phrase or even a hidden message. Because of the small size and his attention to detail Ron restricts his remarque production to less than 200 units per year.
Most remarques are rarely as complex as Suchiu's and are generally very quickly drawn tiny pencil sketches without color.
When purchasing an art print with a remarque buyers should "BEWARE!" that some prints and art pieces have what appears to be a remarque on them. The image may be printed on at the time that the print was made. These offer no added collectible value.
Remarque is a small original sketch, drawing or painting done by the artist in the margin of the finished print.
Hand tinted refers to any of a number of methods of manually adding colour to a photograph or other image to heighten its realism. Typically, water-colours, oils and other paints or dyes are applied to the image surface using brushes, fingers, cotton swabs or airbrushes. Some photographic genres, particularly landscapes and portraits, have been more often hand-coloured than others, and hand-coloured photographs have been popular enough that some firms specialised in producing them.
These prints have no set numerical limit and are printed to meet the demand of the market. It is similar to a poster without the type around it. Some open edition prints are signed by the artist.

Ronald Suchiu is one of the world’s most unique artists. He masters and blends realistic art with surreal art. He weaves emotions into his paintings with color, reflections and light. He was born to create art.
Suchiu is no stranger with the press having done numerous magazine and newspaper articles, along with TV and Radio shows. He is your true artist, a little quirky, at times abstract in his thinking, his wife says he has several personalities, yet he is very confident with the public, and he somehow always makes you feel like an old friend.
