"....absolutely beautiful print Heather.
It will add grace and beauty to our home." - Janet Blanchard
Most of the time Suchiu is commissioned to paint his paintings, but every once in awhile he gets to paint something just because something caught his fancy and he came up with an idea for a painting. This was one of those times.
Suchiu did not use a model for the woman in this painting; he conjured her up strictly from . . .

. . . his imagination. Although the woman in the painting bares much resemblance to his wife Colleen, he consciously did not intend it to be her. Many will argue this fact with him and conclude that he was obviously thinking of her when he painted this beautifully gentle scene.
Suchiu’s story goes like this: “The feelings that influenced me to paint this field of Heather are just as pure and simple as the image itself. All of the wealth in the world cannot replace the treasures that nature hands over to us so willingly and without demands. It is up to us not only as individuals but as an entire race to realize the true value of this incredibly generous source and protect it at all costs.”
March 21, 1995 was an historic moment in
Canadian art. Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien and U.S. Ambassador to Canada welcomed Ronald Suchiu, his wife Colleen and daughter Britton, accompanied by MP Jerry Pickard to Ottawa.

All in the same day artist Ronald Suchiu visited with U.S. Ambassador James Blanchard and his wife Janet at the U.S. Embassy, presented a regally framed print to the Governor General’s office where two royal couriers would then be personally transporting .
Suchiu’s art to Her Royal Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. He then had a private meeting
with Prime Minister Jean Chretien.
